A Fire is Coming - Lindsey Bottino

There’s a fire in my heart

& it’s burning from the inside out.

It’s like that Mary-Jane you ignite to forget the day—

it chars your throat,

but numbs the pain.

I have butterflies in my stomach,

& they’re attacking me from the inside out.

It’s like the Absolut you use to wash the day away—

the first five shots are bitter,

but you can forget the world.

My hands are weapons—

whatever I seem to touch breaks too easily.

My feet are anchors—

every time I step I sink even further.

I am a statue—

made by the world only to be seen, not heard.

There’s a fire in my heart

& it’s burning from the inside out…

…& I think it’s finally killing me.
